THE GIULIANO FUJIWARA_RETROSPECTIVE FUTURES EXHIBITION OPENS THE RENOVATED HEADQUARTERS OF ACCADEMIA DEL LUSSO IN VIA MONTENAPOLEONE 5
Milan, 17th September 2019 – Accademia del Lusso, the top-level School of Fashion & Design for young talents who want to pursue a career in the fashion world, returns to the spotlight on the first day of Milanese fashion: the Giuliano Fujiwara_Retrospective Futures exhibition will celebrate the opening to the public of Accademia del Lusso’s renovated headquarters in Via Montenapoleone 5, at the heart of the Milanese fashion quarter.
The event, included in the official Cameramoda calendar and open to the public, will continue at Accademia del Lusso’s Luxury Lab in Via Chioggia 2/4, Milan from 18th to 21st September 2019.
The constant interest in the brand from students and fashion industry insiders led Accademia del Lusso, under the guidance of the Head of Education Barbara LG Sordi, to propose a series of outfits inspired by the creative universe of Giuliano Fujiwara. The newly graduated designers have reinterpreted, according to modern trends, the most iconic garments from the brand’s archive and created a series of printed fabrics inspired by the Wabisabi philosophy. The result is the birth of the GIULIANO FUJIWARA_RETROSPECTIVE FUTURES Exhibition which enabled a focus on the work of the designer, updating it through the ideas of the young designers.
Yoshiaki Fujiwara founded the Giuliano Fujiwara brand in 1986, inspired by minimalism and creating (already deducible from the brand’s name) an ideal bridge between Italian savoir faire and Japanese design, between artisan tradition, avant-garde fashion and sartorial luxury. Upon the death of the creator in 2001, the brand was managed by his wife Kiyomi Fujiwara who also ensured stylistic continuity after the arrival of Creative Director Masataka Matsumura.
The Creative Director has managed to make the collections more contemporary by introducing avant-garde, futuristic elements and traditional, excellent quality tailoring techniques, transforming the brand into a true all-round lifestyle brand.
Barbara LG Sordi, Head of Education at Accademia del Lusso, said: “We are very proud of this project that has allowed us to involve our students in a brand that has made fashion history. Thanks to Stefano Sacchi, a collaborator of the company since the days of its founder and now a Lecturer at Accademia del Lusso, we’ve been able to create, inside our renovated headquarters at Via Montenapoleone 5 in Milan, the GIULIANO FUJIWARA_RETROSPECTIVE FUTURES Exhibition. This represents a unique opportunity to celebrate the opening of our new offices in the fashion quarter through a brand narrated by original outfits, photographs and designs”
